June 28–30, 2018

We will spend the retreat at Lake Zegrze (ze-G-ze), the most popular leisure area at the northern outskirts of Warsaw. This is where thousands of Warsaw residents come every weekend for recreation. The venue is located around 20 kilometres from the city center at the shore of a lake with a surface area of about 33 square kilometres.

Lake Zegrze has three public beaches. The Wild Beach in Nieporęt, located at the south shore of the lake, has on-duty lifeguards, equipment rental, changing areas, showers and toilets, and its promenade leads to bicycle and pedestrian paths. The entire area is illuminated in the evenings and monitored. Another place to rest and relax is the beach in Serock, on the north shore of the lake; this beach’s main attraction is the floating bridge, which serves as a pier for docking boats. There is a playground for children, and plenty of room for beach games and sports. There is also a building with changing rooms, public toilets and a parking lot. Finally, the beach in Wieliszew is one of the largest public beaches on Lake Zegrze. The annual amateur beach-volleyball championship is organized here, and there are late-night movie marathons right on the beach.

Lake Zegrze has excellent conditions for sailing, windsurfing and kite-surfing, and water-sport enthusiasts have a yacht club and other water-sport attractions at their disposal. Sailing races held on the lake attract professionals, amateur boat crews and windsurfers, in addition to boat lovers. The region around the water is also perfect for cyclists, offering 351 kilometres of routes at varying levels of difficulty. Clean, shallow waters make Lake Zegrze an attractive spot for fishing, with an abundance of pike, bream and carp.

In recent years, there has been extensive development of conference and training-session facilities around the lake. The Marina Hotel, located in the village of Białogrzegi, is one of the new establishments on Lake Zegrze. It has a huge terrace, a boat basin and a bonfire site, with full services and up-to-date conference facilities that allow conference participants to both rest and work in a pleasant environment.

We will leave for the retreat site on Thursday morning by a coach. It is a 45-minute drive.   The check-out time on Saturday is noon. The retreat site is reachable by public transit and there are public buses leaving for Warsaw every 20 minutes or so. With a single transfer (from the 705 bus to the S3 urban rail), one can easily travel from Marina Diana to the Chopin Airport (this takes up to 100 minutes) or the Warsaw Central Station (this takes 75 minutes). We will provide timetables and instructions during the retreat. Those flying back from Modlin can either take the bus plus rail back to Warsaw and then travel from Warsaw to the Modlin airport, or take a taxi from the retreat location directly to the Modlin airport. The latter option is preferable, as the retreat site is actually half way through between Warsaw and the Modlin airport. If more people will be traveling back via Modlin, we will coordinate shared taxis for them.
